Haven't there been movies shot on video before? I remember seeing an old movie shot using film and video. |

Yup. People have been shooting feature-length films (and getting them released) on video (Hi8 and Beta SP) forever, particularly in the documentary and horror categories. I don't know why we should get excited about the use of MiniDV all of a sudden. |

i guess i should have been a bit clearer...
panasonic has a camera which gives video the "film look". It was breakthrough technology a year or so ago, and is now a hot item. In the end, it slashes production costs tremendously. But is it film? no. Millions of movies have been shot on video (excluding HD), i know. But to have a miniDV movie screened in mainstream cinema for theatrical release? is significant in indie production. Instead of spending 5k on film stock, you can spend it on talent, locations, etc. |

| yeah, and if you're using programs like Final Cut Pro, you can uh, use a special thing that makes it look like quality film. i don't know much about that stuff, but my friend told me something like that. we're going to make movies this summer with a few other people. |

| Now I'm not sure if I should have just started a new topic with this but it's about Digital and Movies. This classmate of mine told me that one of the theaters in Yuma was one of the few that used digital projectors to show movies. I went on monday and it was pretty cool. What do you people who know about movie making think about this kind of shit? |
