I guess Ocotlan used to be it, but now that it's indoors it doesn't seem to be the same anymore.

Acatlan is pretty good too, but there's gotta be some better place.

Now Brangus (near Molcajetes) is tasty, but a little expensive.

Any recommendations?

If you like tripa, I recommend either Jugos Bamoas, when the cook that looks like a child molester is making it. Probably the best tripa place is El Nuevo Tecolote, East on Cuahtemoc from Justo Sierra. Another good one is the stand near Miau, Miau(I've heard). But, if you're looking for an overrall good taco place, I think Acatlan is the best.

Jugos Bamoas? Didn't one of you get violently ill after eating there a while back?

Ocotlan? I miss the retarded guy on a wheelchair that use to cruise the tables. So in protest, I no longer frequent their establishment.

Acatlan? Only if I'm guaranteed a confrontation with the 10 year old thug that patrols the parking lot on his Huffy.

Brangus? How's my hair? You pussy.

Now, the best tacos in Mexicali can be found at (El?) Nuevo Milenio--formerly known as La Tormenta (del Desierto), down by El Hoyo (that place where they sell fruit, vegetables and candies near the gutter bars.) Their tacos rock you like a fucking hurricane. It's a small shack a few yards east of the bridge that goes over the (now covered) New River. It is definately not the kind of place a cream puff would take a girl or his fufu friends (actually, not a the kind of place a cream puff would go at all.)

All they serve is is tacos de carne asada, tacos de tripas and a combination of the two. Corn or flour. That's it (at least as far as I can remember. Never asked for anything else, never heard anyone order anything else.) The interaction between you and the staff and patrons is kept to a minimum. You're there to eat, not make new friends. The cook eyes you, grabs a tortilla, slams a fistful of meat into it and hands it over. Another guy (the resident retard, if it's your lucky day) hands you a whole, pre-cut avocado. Heaven.

I really don't like this place. I used to think their burritos were da bomb, but it was only 'cause I was drunk.

"Yada yada yada, you bitch!"

It also went downhill once that "funny guy" waiter stopped working there. This guy must've been coked up during his shift, but he sure provided some great entertainment.

I saw him at a different stand, on Lopez Mateos towards the airport, and he seems to be the owner or manager. Anyway, that's where he is (if you even have a clue about who I'm referring to or if you even care).

I completely agree with you here.

I realized I forgot to mention this place while I was having lunch.

Oh, I think that tale is best spun by Mr. Amp himself.

Actually, no. The first time we went there, I'll admit it, they were pretty damn excellent. The second time, not so good. Third, totally downhill (at least compared to the first time.) Sure, they're pretty good compared to your average taco stand, but I'm looking for a little consistency. I guess I'll have to swing by again soon and give 'em another try.

Hey, what's that on your shirt?

I find this discussion to be very tripa biased. People, have we forgotten how much joy pastor has brought to our lives. Let us take a moment and celebrate the life of Maximiliano Ochoa, who invented the modern propane pastor rig in 1946. October is global pastor appreciation month. I propose a month long tripa boycott, so we may dine exclusively on the bounty dubbed pastor.

What revramrod is talking about is an altercation we had with this little kid who wanted money. I think we gave his friend our change, and when we didn't give him any, he got a little upset. See, he was doing wheelies for us and we were all acting super impressed, inbetween our laughter, and I don't think he appreciated not getting paid for his services. Anyone of us would have given him some, but I don't think anyone had anything left.

So, he held us up about 15 minutes by sticking his hand in the door jambs, so that we couldn't close our doors. I swear I wanted to push him away from the car, but there were like 50 people watching from the restaurant just waiting for the Guerro to do something so that they could jump in.

We tried everything. Someone in our company even told the kid that he had slept with his sister, which I still don't think was a very good idea. The kid then preceded to lecture us on how inconsiderate we are as Americans, to just go to Mex to party, etc. Anyway, we were all getting tired of the kid and all the people pointing and laughing. Revramrod acted really pissed off and got out of the car and the kid started running away. We then quickly started backing out, when he came back and grabbed the antenna to my car, so that if I backed out anymore, I would be bending the antenna. I stopped, he jumped on the hood, and I hit reverse. He then very gently rolled of the hood and screamed an obscenity involving my mother. As we were backing out we got about ten very nasty looks, from some people who had just arrived and saw a little boy roll off the hood of my car. They got the finger from all four people in my car.

All this trouble for some freaking tacos!!!

Be careful when you go to Acatlan, once when I went there, there was a kid who looked like he was 8 or 9 years old and he was on a bike built for a little 5 year old girl with flat tires. He kept bugging me and the rest of my crew until we gave him money. We gave him 5 pesos but he wanted 5 pesos from all of us and there were 5 of us, the kid was out for a good profit. We told him no but he wouldn't leave us alone. We tried to drive out of the parking lot when the kid grabbed the car antenna and wouldn't let go, two of us got out of the car and the kid backed off. In the few seconds we drove off before the cops got there cuz the kid was being scandalous, and I'm pretty sure people thought we were beating him or something.
So Taco Eater Beware!!!

Its hilarious that all of you get harrassed at Acatlan. Never in my life have I been given shit by anyone for eating my delicious pastor en tortilla de maiz tacos. I guess its a certain kind of folk that get pegged as american assholes and are then harrassed. No offense guys but what the hell are you all doing to get all this attention on you.
