Sorry to revive this post after almost two months, but it's officially happened again; Acatlan sucks now!
Remember when Ocotlan was open, and it was good. Then after they spent all the money to close it, it started sucking? This same shit happened to "Maquinitas" 501. When it was just the little stand outside of the liquor store, it was delicious. Once they moved across the street to the bigger lot, it started sucking.
I went a couple of nights ago to Acatlan. You know how they've remodeled now, and it huge, right? Well sure enough, the meat is now being boiled or cooked al vapor, cause it's not being grilled anymore. It totally lacks flavor.
Well, I guess it's time to look for a new place, again. |

You may want to try "Las Brasas" on Anahuac in mex.
Price is average, and the tacos are pretty good. They're not great, but they're about the best taco place in mex right now.
It's sad to say, but the taco places in mex really suck right now. That place in El Centro, "Mexicali Tacos," is actually better than a lot of the taco places in mex, and the worst part is, with the "Taco tax" going up in mex, they're about the same price as taco's from mex. |

Does anyone know if that taco place that's about 1-2 blocks east of Forum is still any good?
I haven't been there since I stopped going clubbing with Mr. Tasty. |

That's La Maquina 501. I haven't been there in a while and I everytime I ate there was after I was done drinking.
I wouldn't be able to say that they're good, since tacos usually are when you're drunk... with the exception of this one stand near the border across the street from the first liquor store you hit. |

I went to Acatlan on tuesday and i was also disappointed to see that the tacos are smaller and the meat is different.
501 is not good i went there on Sunday. It's just not good.
I tried Ocotlan again and it's pretty good the tacos there are twice the size of Acatlan and i recommend the quesadilla con carne.
But if you get a chance try the taco stand next to Playboy's strip club its a cart on the corner they are pretty good there too. |

| The only time I stopped going to Ocotlan was when somebody I know found a disintegrated roach in their coke. As far as that the tacos were always good. I had been to Acatlan a couple of times and they were good as well but if the tacos are now bad it looks like Ocotlan may be back on top. |

I had a similar experience at Ocotlan. I found (a little too late) a cockroach in my taco after I took a bite out of it. I paused for a few seconds and wondered what that acidic taste was from, afterwards I spit it out. Yup, it was a cock-a-roach.
Took me a while to get the courage to go back there, but things now seem to be OK. |

I think every single restaurant in Mexicali has cockroaches and everyone has heard a cockroach story about every single restaurant in Mexicali.
It's a risk either way and maybe that is why they taste so good. The rush... the feeling that you might eat a big nasty bug. |
