The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has classified the Imperial County as "marginal" when it comes to it's air standards and is giving it a deadline of June 2007 to clean up our skies. The push from the EPA to implement new polution controls comes as 474 nation-wide counties fail to meet federal health standards. Los Angeles County ranked worst as their classification was set to "severe."

There has been a bit of discussion on Calecia.com regarding our environment, especially with the recent addition of two US corporation owned power plants in the outskirts of Mexicali, BC. Along with the smog produced by Baja California's state capital, Mexicali, it appears to be a dilemma that can only be handled with the cooperation of our neighboring country.
Will we have a breath of fresh air by 2007? |

No.
I expect an extension to be given out. Especially since the state budget has and will be cutting county fundings. Plus, the county can always resort to the 'paro' that they have complied to all state and federal standards/regulations, but Mexico is not doing anything to solve the problem. Blame funding and Mexico. It's that simple. So no I don't expect clean air any time soon. |
