Firing Your Cell Phone Service Carrier

I am totally dissatisfied with my current cell phone carrier. If any of you want to know what carrier, it's Verizon Wireless.

They're coverage is terrible, the quality is descent, and their customer service is awful.

I still have a little over a year to go in the 2-year contract I regrettably signed, and want to switch over to another carrier.

Are there any loopholes to getting rid of the service without getting charged those insane penalty fees?

Currently, I'm a pissed off Verizon Wireless customer. I used to own the Motorolla V2260 (Peanut looking) and just bought the slider phone (Kyocera SE47). Well, with my old phone I would only lose about 10-15 minutes of coverage from Calexico to SD. After purchasing this new technology my coverage dropped an additional 40+ minutes. So instead of having better coverage this new phone reduced it instead. I called Verizon and of course their rep said he couldn't do anything. I wrote a letter to Verizon's customer service and at least 5 days have passed without a reply.

Verizon prides itself and how great their customer service is and they remind you every time you call them, but once a problem arises they give you the run around. They have a guarantee that if you have buy any equipment you have 15 days to try it out and return it if you don't like it. Well I had 17 days with my new phone and told them about my problem. Since I had gone two days over they said they could do nothing about it. That's why I wrote them a letter, but seems they could care less about my concerns. Currently, I'm not a happy customer.

This seems to be the case with most providers once you near the international border. I use Cingular and during the first few weeks it was awful. Now it seems like the service has improved somewhat, although I occasionally get a roaming or "No Access" message on my screen.

Cingular's customer service has improved with me. When I was a subscriber a few years back, it was horrible. Now I'm able to get some answers when I have a problem.

If your Verizon service is really that bad, then you might want to try this:

"Bitch and complain"

If this doesn't work for you with their front lines, "bitch and complain" some more and ask to speak to their manager. Once you have the manager on the phone, "bitch and complain" again, but do it in a professional manner. Be very descriptive with what dissatisfaction you may have with your carrier and ask for some type of compensation. If your requests are reasonable, you may end up being the victor.

I'm glad I have Sprint. They have great coverage and the service is good. The quality of the calls are very clear. As far as the coverage goes, I have never hit a dead spot. I can even use my phone on my way to San Diego between Ocotillo and Alpine, it does count as roaming, but in case of an emergency who cares.
The only way that I know that you can break a contract is if you live directly in a dead spot. If you can try to convince them that your entire house is a dead spot you might have chance.

What if my phone roams fifty percent of the time when I'm at home?

As anyone who's ever called the Verizon Wireless customer service line knows, there is no such thing. They have more questions than answers, unless the answer is "There's nothing we can do."

And I've spoken with managers, sometimes they're cool, and sometimes they're rude. It's a risk.

I had a manager be really rude with me once because I was complaining that I hadn't been able to use my phone for two days because it started roaming every time I picked it up. She didn't even have the decency to fake empathy, so after a while, I got pissed and became rude myself.

After my 15 minute complaint, she just gave me the nothing can be done speech, so I demanded a discount or something. She refused, and when I asked to speak to her supervisor, she said she didn't have one. So I asked her if she owned the company, and she quickly told me she had nothing else to say to me and ended the conversation.

So I called back, spoke to another manager and complained. Was anything done? I doubt it.

Q: Can you hear me now?
A: Yes, but only at the two dollar roaming rate.

i'e never had a problem with verizon. i've been with them since 2001, and i can't complain. just finish your contract, then move on. if bitching don't get you nowhere, try calling the corporate office. don't call CS because you already know what's going to happen. call corporate. maybe then, will something get done.

I think they might consider that a problem with your phone not their service. I think you should blow up one of their towers, that should do it.

ive tried getting out of contracts but ive never been able the only way ive been able to do it was to pay the 200 or 150 charge.

For that much, I might as well just stick with my cell phone carrier. That's about 6 months of cell phone service.
