| Since I'm gonna be a dad soon, I feel the next logical thing to do is give my GF an engagement ring. So how much should I spend on an engagement ring? I was thinking about 1,000-1,300 should get me a decent looking ring, but I was also thinking that If I get her a less expensive ring, i could use the savings towards buying furniture, things for the baby, etc... I would hate to look like a tightwad, and have my GF go through the embarrasement of showing her friends the shitty ring I bought her, but hey, 500-700 bucks should het her an ok ring. Any opinions? How much did or would you guys spend on an Engagement ring? |

Pato,
Talking purely from experience a girl takes such things as a wedding, marriage proposals, wedding rings to heart, even if they tell you that it's ok. Women in reality want the better stuff, don't fall in the trap of going for something less expensive now and end up upgrading later like I did. Hell if this is the girl that you feel deserves to bare your child and have your last name then she deserves a nice ring, if you spend more than $ 1,000.00 you will get a good ring, mothers day is coming and you may see some good sales on jewelry, its all about buying the 1800.00 ring for 1000.00 so be patient if you can, if you have credit you may get it in payments of 100-120 a month for 12 months and no interest. Zales got's some good stuff, localy that is the only place I like. Good luck |

Zales, isn't that the place where Kobe got ripped off?
F the mall, higher costs. From my buddies that have pulled the one knee gig, they have said that place off the 163, Friars road east, in the Hazard Center there's a diamond store that has great value. Can't remember the name. |

| Stay the fuck away from Zales. They have the nastiest and dirtiest diamonds around, plus they cost way too much. If you are on a budget focus more on quality and not so much the size. I paid about 7 hundred for mine and I negotiated. The diamond was a .38 karat with a high quality it was appraised at $1,700. If I got the chance to shop all over I would have traveled to San Diego and bought it at Robbin Bro's. We bought the wedding bands there and they were great diamonds at a very good price, plus they treat you like royalty. The store is near Fashion Valley and trust it is very much worth the drive. Another great thing is the ring comes with a lifetime warranty that replaces for free the diamond it become damaged, comes loose or is lost. Don’t buy a ring until you go there. http://www.robbinsbros.com/default.asp |

| Forget about buying an expensive engagement ring. Instead, use the money to open up a college savings trust to help pay for your kid's college tuition. |

| I'd rather spend that money on something more useful like furniture, remodel the house, things for the baby etc.. but I don't wanna seem like a tightwad. Besides, women are all about showing off things to their friends and I don't want my GF to be embarrased about a shitty ass ring. Hey Verbal, do you think you were talking about that same store Ame-ricano posted? |

I think that is the same one. It's right off the 163 instead of going towards the mall you go towards the stadium and it right at the corner as you come of the 163. |

Yeah I think it is since Ame-ricano posted the same directions and its pretty much the only diamond store around. You can't miss it.
Again 8 west, 163 N, Friars E, and its own your right hand side. It's a block away after you exit the 163. Hazard Center. |

| The only ring I've seen that I liked is a 1/3 karat diamond platinum ring for $999, used to be $1,299, which is what a friend paid for his at Crescent (or something like that), the jewelery in the Mervyn's little shopping center. I'll definitely be heading over to that one place in SD you guys recommended, hopefully I'll find something better there. I'll let you guys know, thanks. |

Tell them to give you the Calecia.com special. Don't worry, they'll know exactly what you mean. |
