Clear Channel Suspends Stern's Radio Show

The nation's largest radio station chain took shock jock Howard Stern off the air in six markets, saying his sexually explicit show did not meet the company's newly revised programming standards. The move came on the eve of Thursday's congressional hearing on broadcast indecency.
The Stern show was heard on six stations owned by Clear Channel Communications, though it is distributed to dozens of others by its owner, Infinity Broadcasting. It was not immediately clear how long Stern would stay off the Clear Channel stations.
Stern's show has graphic references to sex and regularly includes strippers and pornographic movie stars as on-air guests. The show that prompted Clear Channel to act aired Tuesday and included a man discussing an alleged sexual encounter with hotel heiress Paris Hilton.
On Thursday, Stern told listeners he had been unaware of the move by Clear Channel.
"I could blow my stack. I'm trying to be cryptic," he said. "To tell you the truth, I don't know what's going on. They are so afraid of me and what this show represents."
Maybe if it was the early 1990s I would give a shit about Howard Stern being taken off the radio, but the last few years have been ridiculous. The majority of the show is about sex and strippers, while from the recent listenings I have not heard any new creative material come from him and his staff.

Yeah, Howard Stern's shit has gotten old. I think he peaked when his movie came out, but went downhill from there fast. His show got really annoying when he first got divorced; it seemed that every five minutes he had to talk about his divorce. |

Howard Stern fucking rocks. Here in San Francisco he's still on. While he has his off days, it is still the most hilarious morning radio show on the air. His celebrity interviews are the best, the dynamic between everybody on the show is still awesome and most importantly he still manages to shock me on a weekly basis. Plus Artie Lang kicks Jackie's ass. Artie is awesome. And what's happening in this country right now is really frightening.

His ratings are still very high. Higher than any other radio show. And he's huge on the east coast.

His shit is old, but I could care less if he's on or off the air.
I simply change the radio stations. I could care less. Though from year to year he'll have some good celibrities on. Whoopie. Reaching.
Jim Rome and sports radio is what I listen to every day. And even that shit gets old, but I don't force myself to listen every day. It's called a CD player. |
