Finally a movie that I am very interesting in seeing in a theater, although there appears to be a slight problem.

Payoff for 'Passion'

Churches buying out theaters for Gibson film, expecting audiences to pack their pews later.

"We already have 10 sold-out shows at the Airport Cinema and the movie doesn't open until Wednesday. There's tremendous interest," said Dan Tocchini, owner of the Airport and Roxy theaters in Santa Rosa.

"Churches are buying out a theater auditorium and then using it as a pulpit to talk about the movie," Tocchini said.

I have already heard people at my place of work who are apparently very religious talking about how their church will be purchasing large quantities of movie tickets for the opening day of The Passion of the Christ. This normally wouldn't be a problem, but how uncomfortable must it be for people of other beliefs and the atheist/agnostic communities. Will they all behave through the duration of this movie?

What's up with all these people that wait in line many hours just to buy tickets for the opening show? Why can't they wait till the following week when the theatres are less crowded? I really don't see the point of this.

Anyways, I don't get why the church has to get involved in everything that is shown on TV and on Theatres. The same thing happened when "El Pecado del Padre Amaro" was about to come out in Mexico, and the only thing that this caused was for people to really wanna go see this movie cause of the contreversy, therefore making the director more money than what they would of won if they hadn't created all that contreversy.

I'm not religious, but my brother is a pastor. He has invited my fiance and me to join him and his church this Thursday at the screening of The Passion.

I let you guys know what I thought.

OK aside from whether it makes sense to wait in line to see a movie on opening weekend or how people of different faiths are going to react to this film, WHEN THE FUCK DID MEL GIBSON BECOME A HEADCASE? He used to be cool. Now he's all hard core Catholic anti-abortion, anti-divorce, talking about how God sent him signs that he HAD to make this movie. There's nothing wrong with making a movie about the life and death of Christ, but Mel needs to chill on the fundamentalist Catholic rhetoric.

I remember reading articles he wrote or interview he did in some of my brother's faith magazines and it seems he has always been like that. I think that since the movie is coming out there is more focus on it.

Well, this atheist will be as uncomfortable as he normally is when he goes to the movies; putting up with the myriad of asshats that don't possess enough common courtesy to STFU during the feature.

As for how I'll "behave." Well, I'll sit down, watch the movie, hopefully enjoy it, then go back to my normal routine when it's over.

Maybe, just maybe, if I'm feeling particularly feisty, I'll mouth off some vile anti-Jesus bullshit on my way out the theater door, just to stay in character.

An elderly woman from Wichita, Kansas collapsed and died of a heart attack during the crucifixion scene. Something strange had to happen, right?

I just hope that's not the first sign of the apocalypse.
