So there would be 50 presidential candidates? So it would end up working out to who had the bigger state?

It's hard enough to hear all the issues from two different candidates.

I'm not saying that my way is not without its flaws. The point I'm making is that the way presidential elections are now needs to be changed.

step 1: get rid of the electoral college, and use only the popular vote.

You know, I'm getting pretty tired of hearing people complain about the electoral college.

I'm pretty sure the second one of the candidates that you* favor wins because of the electoral college, you'll sit back on your lay-zee-boi,** drinking your heineken thinking, "Good thing we have the electoral college.

*You being the people who have been bitching and complaining about the electoral college ever since Bush "won"

**Yes, that's not the way its spelled. It's supposed to signify that you own an imitation.

I've opposed the electoral college since before I was old enough to vote. And believe me when I say that a candidate I truly support will most likely never win the electoral college.

You mean like when John F. Kennedy lost the popular vote against Richard Nixon in 1960, but still became president by winning the electoral college?

It seems to me that the best thing that could happen for American democracy would be to eliminate any party affiliation. We shouldn't allow politicians to represent any one party; they should only run on their own ideas. That way we don't get politicians that overtly cater to special interest groups.

The thing is Political Parties are man made. No where in the US Constitution does it talk about Political Parties. Back in 1787 there weren't Political Parties, at least not what we have today a two-party system. Over the decades people have affiliated themselves with common views and beliefs.

Someone asked whats the difference between Democrats and Republicans. Well, to be very brief I'll explain their stands on 3 major issues: religion, economy, and health care. Republicans are pro-life, cutting taxes, and limited health care. Democrats are pro-choice, raising taxes to fund more social programs, and universal health care.

That being said, most people could have an idea what party they want to be a part of. It can be said that politicians are representing a single political group, but in the end they are representing the vast majority of people. If you think about it the abortion issue (nice sign on 98 and Chavez) there can only be two sides. Either your for it or against it. Unless you consider "I don't care" a stand. Thus, the two-party system is derived from peoples actions and decisions. Is it perfect, no, but in general it does an adequate job in representing the views of its constituents.

So, which party do I belong to if I'm pro-choice, want to pay less taxes, want a universal health plan, and want to keep my guns?

My views are diverse; there just isn't anyway I will ever be completely in agreement with one party or another. That is why I don't affiliate myself with any, and why I think they should be gotten rid of.

Life is about choices. If you don't like the system then you can run for office. Now, if you're so diverse, like you state, then how many people will vote for you?

The question you should be asking yourself is what is more important to you? If you want your guns (the 2nd amendment is not going any where) and less taxes then you select Bush. If you want abortions and universal health care than the Democrats are there for you. I'm pretty sure there some politician out there with your exact views, and you can always write in his/her name.

So you want to get rid of the whole system? If you do so, expect a significant drop-off in voter turnout. Too many candidates can cause a whole new set of problems.

A Republican will screw you and tell you you asked for it. A Democrat will screw you and tell you you needed it. Reverend Ramrod says go screw yourself.

Vote Reverend Ramrod in 2004.

That's the best description of both parties I've ever heard.
