I was reading on an alumni Web site message board where some people from the class of 1970s and beyond were discussing an old drive-in restaurant in Calexico named Owen's. It sounded like an American-style place where they sold hamburgers, hot dogs and so on.
Reading all the comments about this restaurant and how life used to be in the 1950s and 1960s here in Calexico just makes me sad. Life appeared much simpler back then and being a childhood thief during this era must have been a dream.
Does anyone recall any local restaurants of the past that wish they would still exist? We might have to add historic restaurants to Calecia.com Food & Drink so that people can reminisce. |

| I know I already mentioned this one before, but The Oasis Burger had the best chili cheeseburgers ever! If I had a time machine, I'd go back in time just to eat one of their burgers. |

| There was a yummy place in El Centro called Charlie's. It was kinda fancy, kinda unique for the Valley. They had stuffed mushrooms to die for. |

| Let's not forget Shaky's pizza. I was really young when that place closed down, but it was one of the best pizza places in the valley. |

| I remember enjoying breakfast at Hobo Joe's when I was a kid. I also enjoyed double cheeseburgers at Bob's Big Boy. |

I think the Bob's Big Boy was where Carrow's in EC is now. |

On Imperial Ave. It closed down sometime during the late-1970s or early-1980s. |
