I was at Subway today, and I started reading the nutritional facts. When I realized, "Man, this is a scam. Nobody follow's these charts.
From a Subway Cup
6" Subs
VEGGIE DELITE
3.0 Grams of fat 0 mg of Cholesterol 230 Calories
TURKEY BREAST
4.5 Grams of fat 20 mg of Cholesterol 280 Calories
TURKEY BREAST & HAM
5.0 Grams of fat 25 mg of Cholesterol 290 Calories
ROAST BEEF
5.0 Grams of fat 20 mg of Cholesterol 290 Calories
SUBWAY CLUB
6.0 Grams of fat 35 mg of Cholesterol 320 Calories
HAM
5.0 Grams of fat 25 mg of Cholesterol 290 Calories
ROASTED CHICKEN BREAST
5.0 Grams of fat 45 mg of Cholesterol 320 Calories
Now here's where it gets sneaky. The totals above do not include the extras which you normally add.
Mustard (2 tsp)
0 Grams of fat 0 mg of Cholesterol 10 Calories
Light Mayonnaise (1t)
5 grams of fat 5 mg of cholesterol 45 Calories
Cheese Triangles (2)
3.5 grams of fat 10 mg of Cholesterol 40 Calories
Subway Blended Oil (1 tsp)
5 grams of fat 0 mg of Cholesterol 45 Calories
They then criticize McDonalds and Burger King
Big Mac
34 grams of fat 85 mg of Cholesterol 590 Calories
Whopper (without cheese)
39 grams of fat 80 mg of Cholesterol 680 Calories
So let's do some realistic numbers.
Let's say you get a Roast Beef sandwich.
But you're hungry, so you get the 12".
That's now 10 grams of fat 40 mg of Cholesterol 580 calories
So now, let's add some mustard and mayo.
That's now 20 grams of fat 50 mg of Cholesterol 690 Calories
Some Cheese, About 25 grams of fat 65 mg of Cholesterol 750 Calories
Now the oil, 30 grams of fat 65 mg of Cholesterol 840 Calories.
Let's compare that to the Big Mac and Whopper
Roast Beef Sandwich
30 grams of fat 65 mg of Cholesterol 840 Calories
Big Mac
34 grams of fat 85 mg of Cholesterol 590 Calories
Whopper (without cheese)
39 grams of fat 80 mg of Cholesterol 680 Calories
Not much of a difference. You actually get more calories with Subway. And that's if they use exact measurements, which they've never used with me. They're always very generous with my condiments.
Now imagine how much fat and calories you get when you order something like the steak and cheese sandwich.
It's a scam. So if you eat Subway for the good subs, then this doesn't shouldn't make a difference to you, but if you eat at Subway to lose weight, then you just got scammed. |

| Subway is a healthier choice, but you do need to know how to order. This means not ordering a foot long and not adding shit like mayo, cheese, and oil. Even though, oil is not bad for you. In addition, you must take into consideration how much is saturated fat and unsaturated fat. Unsaturated fat is necessary in a healthy diet. When I diet, I usually eat at subway because a chicken breast sub is a healthier choice than a hamburger. Not because of the condiments, but because a chicken breast is higher in protein and lower in saturated fat than a hamburger. I'm smart enough to only add greens and vinegar. ANd no chip not even the baked ones. |

Hey, it's under the 6 grams of fat or less category, so you're under the assumption, unless you read the cup or napkins, that you're getting 12 grams of fat. Which is still pretty good.
The point is, I'm sure if you order the big mac without the thousand island dressing, etc, and just get the meat and bread, it would be considerably less in fat. |

I decided to try something different today, so I went for a Subway Atkins Wrap. Most expensive burrito I've ever paid for. It cost me almost $7 for this and a drink. $5 for the wrap, which really should cost no more than $3.
Roberto's should offer their carne asada burritos with wheat tortillas. This would make the ultimate Atkins meal. |
