So I just have to go on record as saying that I get that there have to be rules, but threads do tend to venture off in different directions. And if people are afraid of venturing because they want to be scolded, then it might fuck with the spontaneity and creativity of a thread.

It isn't a problem when users "venture off" subjects as long as the integrity of the original topic is not destroyed.

The whole purpose of everyone contributing their ideas/opinions/etc. in legitimate topics is so that these discussions can be preserved for existing and new members to be able to reference as a valuable resource without having to dig through a lot of bullshit.

There are plenty of ways to be spontaneous and/or creative while keeping in line with rules and regulations, as well as the topic of conversation. If that isn't possible for someone, then honestly that is a problem with the actual user.

Plus being scolded is just plain annoying.
BUT I can appreciate that as founders and watchdogs of this site, you want it to run smoothly, etc.

Do you honestly think that I look forward to baby sitting discussions? I despise it more than everyone else. This is why I would rarely enforce any of the rules (even when they weren't publicly available).

Here is the bottom line...

The principals of this Internet property (i.e. - Calecia.com) spend numerous hours and energy, not to mention hundreds of dollars annually to own and operate this service. It appears that a lot of this "behind the scenes" work goes unappreciated by this online community.

The entire intention of Calecia.com was not to create a virtual playground where everyone could behave like infants, all while shitting and pissing in their diapers. The intention was AND is to create an online community where people with ties to the Imperial and Mexicali valleys can congregate and actually make an effort to make considerable changes in the area. These changes being political, environmental, social, etc. etc. etc.

As corny and unattainable as this may sound, these ARE Calecia.com's goals. And they are definitely mine as well.

Unfortunately there hasn't been any legitimate marketing campaign launched for Calecia.com to promote any of the services that we offer. Now I understand that some of you may not find any value in the services that Calecia.com offers, but I know for certain that many of you do.

Our current project, Calecia.com Vote, may seem like a "rinky dink" attempt to make a change, when in fact it already has. I personally know people who have become more informed with the candidates who are currently campaigning for Calexico City Council and will be making an educated decision on who they want in office to manage their city.

I think you're a little more intelligent than this. This is in no way censorship. It is referred to as inforcing the rules.

C'mon now. I had to restort to all means possible. I mean who really does tell the truth these days. I have to elobarate a little, spice things up, yellow journalism if you may, in order to gather signatures and bandwagoners on to the movement. It's like the Boston Massacre. 5 people died, but the Sons of Liberty ran with this. It's all in good nature.
Rules are good.

My only dilemma about staying on topic (great idea) is that human nature and ADD are two very powerful entities that affect human conversation. How many times have we been pounding some brews and start with a topic of how the Bills are the best team ever, and end up talking about how Jesus walked on water? Yes, I understand that there ARE other threads for such conversations, but it's a bad habit to break. Now, if someone is doing it on purpose (which I don't think) then that can become annoying and a problem.

Plus, sometimes it's the side shit that makes a conversation. But oh well, I'm a team player. Wink

Sometimes the original topic dies faster than a 70 year old man on Viagra. I mean a thread has 4-5 solid post and then nothing. People stop posting. Then someone comes in and states something off-topic and this thread instead of having 4-5 post becomes one of 20+.

Yes, I understand there are people who are thread killers, but if the thread was good enough it would survive.

Then let it "die." It has reached it's limit.

This makes the actual topic more interesting and useful. When new people arrive, they might be able to add something new and resourceful to it.

If the person who initially posted the topic is really that interested in the subject, they will make an effort to make it more valuable.

So with no retaliation to my reference about what Mars said about you, you have no qualms with anyone else revealing your personal information, huh?
