Can you guys come up with any fads/trends (past or present) that originated or were relevant only in the Imperial Valley, at the time that it was popular?

The one that comes immediately to mind are those stick figure family stickers that people put on the back windows of their cars. You know the ones with the spikey hair and each family members' name under individual characters.

Two others that come to mind is cruising La Reforma (or Los Pinos) in Mexicali, and cruising around The Valley Plaza in El Centro.

Chinga tu madre.

You know, the hitting of your rib cage with your hand and making a noise.

The word suave and chilo.

Definitely the hitting of the rib cage. People not from the valley think it's the oddest thing ever.

Spirit Night; getting drunk and driving around town at 4 in the morning honking your horns the night before the varsity football homecoming game.

When I was in Jr. High, it became the biggest fucking thing to wear those leather Africa medallions. I thought it was the stupidest thing because all these people at De Anza were sporting them.

It's all in the coning of the hand.

This has to be the best thing to ever come out of Calexico. Of course now saying this, it probably didn't even originate here.
