| A while ago, someone had told me that the movie"spun" was a cheap imitation of trainspotting. I decided to rent it and it was actually not too bad. It does have that special effect every time one of the characters snorts meth where everything around them sakes and their eyeball kind of grows, which is kind of getting old in junkie movies. Other than that, it's pretty creative and it does a good job in making you not want to use drugs (which is whatt all junkie movies are designed to do). If anyone else has seen it, post your opinion about it. |

I don't think Scarface deterred anyone from doing drugs.
There's a commercial out right now that is playing one of the songs from Trainspotting. Anyway, it reminds me of that movie and I don't pay any attention to what the product is. |

I enjoyed watching Spun, although I must admit that I fell asleep for a few minutes near the end since I was completely tired before we stepped into the theater.
The repetitive scenes are getting old. They were innovative and tolerable in Pi and Requiem for a Dream, but are so humdrum now just like all of the Matrix combat techniques.
My favorite scene in Spun had to have been when The Cook, Mickey Rourke, starts running out of the motel room after he realizes his meth lab is about to explode. This scene is shot in slow motion. |

Totally overrated. Much like The Salton Sea.
Best contemporary junkie film: Requiem for a Dream.

Pi had no repetitive scenes like that, unless you're referring to Max restating his assumptions and/or pressing the Enter key.

It's called Bullet Time.

Best scene in Spun: Spider Mike discusses why he hates hippies. |

I saw this movie and it was good. But i think it's like super cool to high school kids because i saw these kids at video 2000 who rented and they were saying how they wanted to see it becuase everyone was talking about it. |

I don't believe that Requiem for a Dream is/was overrated at all. In fact, Marlon Wayans performance as Tyrone "Ty" C. Love was outstanding. No bullshit. |

Yeah requiem for a dream was really good. Really harsh at portraying the use of drugs, and I think that watching that movie would keep anyone from using drugs.
But to me, my favorite scene in Spun has to be the one where the cook makes a speech in the porn shop. |

Marlon Wayans should have been nominated for an Oscar for his performance. |

I haven't seen Spun or Requiem for a Dream. I did see The Salton Sea, and actually enjoyed it, but don't really consider it a "junkie film"; I consider it more of a mystery film, along the lines of Memento (some might even consider The Salton Sea a Memento rip-off). |
