| I used to go to mexicali to see good concerts, see good punk shows, have some drinks and eat tacos. Really,my friends, that is all over. If we go to a "punk show" all you see is little kids with the misfits skull t-shirt who love blink-182. If we go out, all we see is fresita girls and guys dressed with their best clothes from JC Penney (which they brag about to their friends because they got it in El Centro) talking about how "cool" Kalias is. Then you got to plaza cachanilla to see these kids dressed up in their baggiest clothes singing rap songs in broken english and calling their friends "niggas" (which to me is really hilarious). This is getting old and boring and it takes away what used to be cool about going to mex. I was just wondering if anybody else had noticed this. |

Totally.
I remember when tocadas were the shit in Mexicali. We'd drive down, grab a few cartons of caguamas and check out really good Punk bands from Mexicali, like Auto Destruccion and Reaccion Cadena, or Caos from San Luis Rio Colorado or Especimen from Tijuana, when they were in town. Those were fucking shows, man.
Now, it's just a bunch of spoiled fresas in ripped designer clothing and spiked hair playing Spanish Mall Punk.
Mexicali once offered a variety of entertaining activities for an adventurous scumbag like myself, but sadly, those days are long gone. Shit, you can't even get into a gutter bar nowadays unless you're wearing proper evening attire. |

Punk died when Hot Topics opened. Doesn't "buying" punk style clothes go against the whole point of punk. |

Actually, considering yourself Punk goes against the whole point of Punk. You're suppose to label yourself a Socially Disillusioned Bluegrass Aficionado. |

Wouldn't labeling yourself we considered not punk since your not suppose to see yourself as an active part of society. |

I still see Chicali ponks walking the streets of Mexicali. They look the same as they did in the 80s and 90s wearing their dirty t-shirts, tight pants and monstrous combat boots. Let us not forget the shitty hair cuts.

I completely agree with you.
And it's not just about the Mexicali punk scene; it's about the Mexican "entertainment" (for lack of a better word) scene in general. No decent acts come to Mexicali anymore. All entertainment hangouts (clubs, movie theaters, bowling alleys, etc.) have become trendy, "guess who I saw" gathering spots. Hell, you can't even go to a fast food joint in Mexicali and not see 85% of the customers dressed as if they were going to a dance club! |
